WHO ARE WE?

guitar shake Marin-2.GIF

We are LOSBOYS- an indie rock band made up of frontman Hayden Stanford, guitarist Marnie Calledine, bassist Ted Staines, and drummer Archie Thompson. Our main inspiration for the music we play comes from our experiences in our home town of Leigh-on-Sea, where we all grew up and the place we call home. It's a quiet town with not much going on but with the right people, you could have the best days of your lives. Playing music with each other, going out skating, swimming at the beach; we can truly say we were not short of a great childhood. Being young and careless, free to make mistakes and wonder through life aimlessly, that's how we want our music to make you guys feel. The band name LOSBOYS literally means 'Leigh-on-Sea' boys, but it's more of a mindset than simply who you are and where you're from. To be a LOSBOY you need to think freely and not get hung up on the idea of 'finding yourself', because being lost isn't a bad thing, it simply means you're on a journey. With our new album 'ROADTRIP', we want to take you on our journey, our destination is unclear but we guarantee you a lot of singing and dancing along the way! The album is made up of 8 songs, all written collaboratively as a band, with the inspiration behind them changing from loved ones, places, or just feelings we want to create within the music. 'You Know It' is one of our favourite songs on the album because it really is a 'feel good' song. Not only is it catchy, but Marnie worked her magic on the strings to create some brilliant guitar sections that you can all feel free to jam out to just like we do when performing. We truly can't wait to perform this one live on our 2024 tour, this opportunity doesn't come often so we just want to thank you for supporting us and giving us the platform to spread some joy and love through our music.

"I can't remember a time when I didn't know Ted, Marnie and Hayden! The first time we played together as a band was electric, we were so comfortable together that the music just flowed and we could just let loose and vibe! I remember feeling a bit intimidated by their musical talent as I'd only really been playing for a couple of months, but they couldn't have been more supportive, and they helped me find my confidence and start playing like I really meant it! I got into drumming after seeing Miles Teller's epic role in the film Whiplash- his dedication and sacrifice for his love of music was insane to me, and ever since I'd dreamt of having that much passion for my own performances. After about 3 years of drumming I attempted the famous Whiplash composition and it's safe to say it needs a bit of work...for now I'm happy to stick to the vibe of LOSBOYS!"

"My biggest inspiration would have to be the legend who is Brian May! The hair, the skill, the style- I could only dream of being as cool as him one day. Growing up I was obsessed with Queen, for obvious reasons, and my love for the guitar started from a very young age. Not many people know this but for the first ten years of my life, I was completely non verbal! I think I said about 5 words during my childhood- but that didn't stop me from expressing myself, and in fact, I would say it heightened by emotional intelligence! Jamming out on the guitar was the only way that felt right for me to get my emotions across, and whenever I was strumming I could leave the confusions of my own head behind and be completely free. Rock and roll was literally my lifestyle and my somewhat challenging past has shaped me into the confident performer I am today! If you didn't already know, LOSBOYS has collaborated with Arthouse Unlimited to create some amazing merchandise, with all proceeds going back to the amazing neurodivergent artists that work there. This charity means a lot to me so check it out!"

"I learnt everything I know about music from my amazing dad. We used to jam out to all sorts of music, our favourite artist was almost definitely GreenDay! When we first started the band I was able to share everything my dad had taught me with Ted, Archie and Hayden- who instantly fell in love with my style of music. Together, we combined our styles and can up with this indie rock sort of thing we go for now! Growing up dancing and singing around the house with my dad has really influenced how I want to make others feel when they're listening to our songs- I hope you guys want to dance and sing, especially when listening to our new single 'You Know It'! Music is one of the most powerful things that can turn someone's day around so it's really important to me that I can help you guys feel awesome with the help of LOSBOYS!"

"My passion for music started in my early teens. I wasn't a very academic kid- in fact, my parents struggled to even get me to turn up to school- so I struggled quite a lot with who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do with my life. Then I met Archie, Marnie and Ted. They introduced me to the world of music, not only helping me develop good taste, but also helping me to realise that I was actually pretty good at singing! The three of them were massive music geeks so inevitably a band was formed, and i would say the rest is history, but it was only 4 years ago! We have been on an incredible journey and are eternally grateful for all of your support because we really wouldn't be anything without you! It's your love for our music that got us recognised by Beggars Group and made it possible for us to be releasing our second album, RoadTrip, featuring our single 'You Know It'.

We wrote "You Know It" as a song to dance and sing along to, but also to express our love for those people in our lives who stick around for the long haul, through thick and thin, who you can always rely on. I'm sure you all have someone like this, so appreciate them and show them how much you love them! And, as always, just have fun and stay lost!"

"I love The Smiths..."

Here's some of the albums that have most inspired our music and hold a very special place in our hearts

beatles vinyl_edited.png
Abbey Road (1969)
The Beatles
tv girl vinyl_edited.png
French Exit (2014)
TV Girl

Here Comes The Sun is one of the greatest songs not only on this album, but of all time! The Beatles' were geniuses and their songs bring about so much emotion, they are truly inspiring.

We are absolute suckers for TV Girl, the music they put out is just hypnotising. Lover's Rock in particular tells such a beautiful story- we can't stop listening!

smiths vinyl_edited.png
Hatful of Hollow (1984)
The Smiths
Meg stick man.gif

Although all four of us have somewhat different music taste, we can all agree that this album is one of the greats- we do, in fact, LOVE The Smiths!

(What's The Story) Morning Glory? (1995)
Oasis
kilby girl_edited.png
When We Were Friends (2019)
The Backseat Lovers

You really can't beat a bit of Oasis, and if you ask us, they trump Blur any day of the week! Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova are so nostalgic of our teenage years, we seriously encourage you to have a listen.

This is one of the hottest albums out there at the moment and we seriously hope to one day collaborate with TBSL. Their compositions are so addictive to listen to especially in their song Kilby Girl

Hayden skates (1).GIF

As you will have seen in the new music video, I’m a pretty good skateboarder- if I do say so myself! In the first COVID lockdown I really took an interest in it as a way of getting some exercise in and some time away from my phone; I’m a pretty active person so being locked away for months on end was my idea of hell! I ended up loving it and haven’t gone a week without making it down to the local skatepark to clear my head and learn some new tricks. When I first started, I remember how hard it was to pick up new skills and get the confidence to practice them at the skatepark in front of all the really experienced skaters (who are actually a lot less scary than you think), so to help my fellow boarders out, I’ve made a series of skate tutorials for you guys to follow along with, and hopefully become nearly as great as me…!

Send in your vids!

We wanna see how you've been getting on with Hayden's tutorials, so send us videos of some cool new tricks you've learnt @losboys and you might end up featured here or on our socials! We love hearing from you guys so we're offering the coolest video two tickets to any of our shows during the ROADTRIP tour- so get skating!

Our 'Made It' moment

Just like any up and coming band, our dream was to one day perform on a big stage in front of thousands. The obvious                 stadiums come to mind; Wembley, The O2, etc. but for us, the first time we truly realised that we had 'made it', as some might    say, was when we sold out the Apollo in Hammersmith. 3,500 people watching us do the thing we love most, and singing the     silly little songs we wrote in Archie's garage back to us like a well rehearsed choir- a true 'pinch me' moment. Not only did          this make it an utterly unreal performance, but knowing that our idols had played on the same stage only 50 years before us       was mind blowing. Following in the footsteps of The Beatles, David Bowie and Queen is the hugest privilege and we could          only wish to ever be a fifth as impactful in the music industry as them. Our dreams remain big, and with our upcoming tour            who knows what lies ahead for LOSBOYS. From singing in the local pub on Friday nights, to performing for a crowd of                                thousands we have come extremely far, and we can only thank you for your support!

The June Store is a small, local skate shop in our home town that supplies all you need as a skater. From boards and trucks to jeans and sunglasses you won't find a skater in Leigh who isn't decked out in June Store merch. For our new music video, we partnered with June Store to supply Hayden and the rest of the gang with top of the notch skate gear, and as you will have seen, they look great! The June Store have also just allowed us to set up a new section of the store where you can grab a sweet treat- called LOSDonuts. You'll be happy to hear that we don't make the food so we can guarantee every donut will be delicious! Check out the store when you get a chance and tune in to our socials to see when we're heading down!

If you didn’t already know, we got to where we are thanks to your support on our social media, and eventually got noticed by Beggars Group after years of your loyal following. We were incredibly lucky, and if one things for sure we know how hard musicians have to work to break their way into the industry, so if we can help someone out we know it’s always hugely appreciated. We would like to introduce you guys to ‘FeveredDreams’, a sibling duo who have just released their first single- By your side. You may recognise that one half of FeveredDreams is actually LOSBOYS guitarist Marnie Calledine, who is trying out a new style and swapping electric rock for an awesome new alternative hippie vibe- which we think is to DIE for, and are sure you will too!  We are beyond proud of Marnie and her brother Sean for following their passion and can’t wait to see what the future holds for FeveredDreams, who will be supporting us on a few of our tour dates in 2024!
